NJ State Highway Incident Safety Guidelines
After much work and changes, these new guidelines have been approved by Attorney General Dow as of June 1, 2010. Since this is the officially endorsed guide, it should be used for all highway responses and training. The AG has created a working group to monitor how the Guidelines are used in the field and to recommend changes as necessary going forward. Click HERE to download your copy (Adobe PDF).

This was a good collaborative effort by the Fire & EMS Institute of which the Council is a founding member. The Council's representatives, Ken Weinberg, Ed Burdzy and Howie Meyer were instrumental in getting sections revised that would have adversely affected EMS without making them any less protective of on-scene EMS. We also received the full endorsement of the Institute with respect to making sure the Council's representatives are included in any future discussions by and changes recommended by the working group.

• Responders working on any federally funded highway must wear ANSI class 2 or 3 high visibility clothing or vests. Read the federal regulation.
